Hello, Wing!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for putting together a coherent presentation with clear drawings, renderings and even an animation! Also, well done for your sculptural and thus daring approach in coming up with a design proposal for a truly unique building type (a hotel and an aquarium).
Unlike still sculpture, buildings contain activities and life and are therefore a lot more complicated. One of my criticisms from the early stages of your design was that you worked more on your building’s form and less on its program. I still believe that if you had worked simultaneously on both (i.e. form and program) then you could have reached an even better result, especially in terms of functionality and space management. Precious space on the third floor would not be wasted, for example, while your conference room (ground floor) is cramped. Also, restrooms should not be opening directly in main spaces such as the hotel lobby or the swimming pool.
A couple of notes on your 3D model, renderings and animation: well done for trying to work on several interior spaces (when I was a student I believe that we rarely did that). The next time you work on an interior try to think more about the materials, colors and even the furniture that you propose for it. And unless you have a good reason for doing so, don’t use the same colors and materials for floors, columns and ceilings as you do in almost all your renderings here. It is no coincidence that your Sushi Bar on the roof is the most interesting / inviting space in your building. Your animation has one or two small problems but I think that it is cool.
Once again, congratulations for your effort and all your hard work during the semester. Following your work while being given the opportunity to comment upon it has been both a pleasure and a privilege. Have a good Summer and best of luck with whatever you do next.
